Earlier this year we moved our business into the future by setting up an Online Counselling and Psychology Service. It is our goal to provide convenient, affordable and confidential appointments to all Australians, irrespective of their postcode. We were aware that Medicare were slowly but surely starting to recognise the importance of online video technology and had already approved various health professionals to provide remote services to clients unable to travel to metropolitan centres (eg. Consultation with a Psychiatrist). Unfortunately it seems Medicare are still yet to include access to Psychologists. As such many Rural and Remote Australian residents are at a disadvantage when trying to access affordable and professional Mental Health Services.
Having grown up myself in Alice Springs this is an issue that is close to my heart. I will continue to watch closely as the Australian Psychological Society (APS) advocates on this issue with the Department of Health and Ageing. Reaching out to all social media users. Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/PositiveMindWorks.Online we would love to hear from you. What do you think, should Medicare provide funding for rural and remote Australians to access Online Counselling and Psychology?
********NEWSFLASH******** Jump forward 6 years and Medicare now provide rebates for all Australians to access both psychiatry and psychology. Call our team on 1800 327 477 to find out more.
