Dr Katie Sickorez is a psychiatrist in the Hawke’s Bay. After a previous career in music education, Katie earned her MD degree from University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (USA) in 2008, and completed her psychiatry specialty training at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Massachusetts in 2012.
As a physician specialising in psychiatry, Katie is trained in various psychological therapies, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and an Affiliate of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of
Psychiatrists. Since relocating to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2019, Katie has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in both the public and private sectors. She has also taught medical students and trainee doctors in both the US and NZ.

Katie takes a person-centred, collaborative, and holistic approach to patient care, empowering those she works with to better understand and take charge of their
mental health and wellbeing. As a general adult psychiatrist, Katie is skilled in assessing and managing a broad range of psychiatric conditions, and has special interests in trauma-informed care and treating those with co-existing complex physical health conditions.
