Claiming Psychology Sessions on Private Health Insurance
The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that mental health conditions are on the rise worldwide. This means that there will be many people who are desperate to seek help from a psychologist or psychiatrist but are unsure of affordability and possible funding options.
If you have private health cover, you may be wondering whether psychology is included? The good news is that nearly all health funds across Australia and NZ have mental health services in their policy extras. However, its essential that you check your policy first to confirm that it is included within your personal cover. You should be able to check this by visiting your providers website or by calling them.
Once you know that you are covered under your private health fund, you can easily book an appointment with one of our psychologists here at Positive Mind Works. All our psychologists are APHRA registered so you can be sure that you are seeing a qualified and experienced mental health practitioner.
Can I claim through both Medicare and Private Health?
No, unfortunately not.
For each session, you can only claim from one funder, either through Medicare or through your Private health but not both. Your private health care will not cover the ‘gap’ between the consultation fee and Medicare rebate.
The payable benefit various depending on your level of private health cover, so it is best to check with your health care fund what your rebate will be if you choose that option. The rebates provided will generally cover the majority of service fees.
How do I claim sessions on private health insurance?
Easy! We have recently integrated a new service into our systems that allows us to process your private health claims directly through our software online, without needing to physically swipe your health insurance card – ensuring that payment is made to you quicker.
We charge the full session amount to your card upfront and then we use our software to process your claim.
