Brief Solution-Focussed Interventions

As the name suggests, it is brief in nature and focused on what the solution looks like in order to move a person closer to this.

Are you familiar with the pop culture cliché of the patient who spends years telling their therapist about every mundane detail of their childhood?

We’ve got good news for you: Modern psychology isn’t like that.

Nowadays, psychology works on a session-limited model in which the client and the therapist agree on a set number of sessions to achieve a specific goal and then reassess the need for further counselling when those sessions come to an end.

This is the basis of what is referred to as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

In Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) the therapist:

  • Focuses sessions on a your present and near-future circumstances rather than past experiences
  • Collaborates with you to set specific and measurable goals
  • Provides tools you can use to immediately begin managing symptoms of psychological distress
  • Assesses the effectiveness of the tools provided over time and suggests how adjust their for maximum effectiveness
